One last thing: thank you

I've been blogging for Studyabroadstories.com for some months now. I've written a lot about my time in Sweden, and I hope you liked it. There's only one last thing I haven't done. And that's thanking Studyabroadstories.com and all its readers.

My time in Sweden was really special to me and I'm glad there is a platform for those who study in another country. Telling your stories to others is great. Thank you for that. Unfortunately my job is done. because I'm home now - for almost two months a... (more)

Kom igen! My transcript of records

Kom igen! That means 'Come on!' in Swedish. What for? My stay in Sweden has brought me thirty European Credits. This week, the Göteborgs Universitet has sent me my official transcript of records. What a beauty, isn't it?

'Global Studies: Key Concepts' was my first course in Sweden. It was all about a globalizing world and what we, human beings, notice of that. My second course was 'Mass Media in Sweden'. Exactly my field of studies in the Netherlands, but in Sweden. The third course I fol... (more)

The crown on my Swedish life

Sweden is still in my life. Every day. When I go the a supermarket, I think of Sweden. When I go to the hairdresser, I think of Sweden - and tell him how much more expensive it is to go to a hairdresser in the Nordic countries. When I'm drinking a coffee somewhere, I think of Sweden. I can't get Gothenburg out of my life. And actually, I think - and hope - that's forever. There hasn't been one day that I haven't thought of Sweden. My friends, the things I did, everything. It was so beautiful. Bu... (more)

Still living abroad in my home country

Three weeks have passed by since I'm back in the Netherlands. But there hasn't been a single day that I haven't thought of my life in Sweden. My Swedish habits, my Swedish friends, my Swedish life. Actually, I'm continuing my Swedish life here in Holland, still living abroad in my home country. Partially. I love the fact that Gothenburg is integrated in my daily life in the Netherlands.

And of course all the people I meet ask me how it was and what I've done there, so far up north. So practic... (more)

A gift for new exchange students

Even though I'm not in Gothenburg anymore, me and my friends are still working on the cookbook we want to write. We want it to be a gift for new exchange students at the Göteborgs Universitet. When the three of us - my American and German friends and me - did the proposal to the university it was well received. So today, I had an appointment with a Dutch publisher for pressing the books.

Hopefully the Göteborgs Universitet is still excited when all the plans and arranging is done. I would... (more)

Photo diary: my Swedish life

Since I'm back in the Netherlands, I'm still thinking of my Swedish life everyday. Let's call it nostalgia. Time to show you a short photo diary of what I've done in Sweden!

This first picture shows how my arrival day looked like. Ice everywhere, water everywhere. I didn't really know what to think as you might can imagine.

Here, I'm standing in front of the main building of the Göteborgs Universitet, Gothenburgs University for exchange students.

In the first week in Gothenb... (more)

If I would do it again?

I'm home for almost a week now. One week back in the Netherlands, far, far away from Sweden. It's so weird to be back 'home'. It's going back to your old habits, your old life. If I miss Gothenburg? Yes. A lot. I miss the city, I miss my habits, and above all, I miss my friends.

I still believe that my stay in Gothenburg, Sweden was a great life experience. My friends and family asked me if I would do it again if I knew what to expect. I definitely would. But every time someone asks me this,... (more)

Can you believe that? No.

Yesterday night, I arrived at home. Home. In the Netherlands. I'm not in Gothenburg, Sweden, anymore. Can you believe that? No. But my trip was fine. I left the central station in Gothenburg round three o'clock in the afternoon, around seven my airplane landed in Brussels, and around eleven at night I was home.

That I'm home doesn't mean you won't read any blogs written by me anymore. This week I'll put all the pictures to the right, so I can show you some of the highlights! For all the peopl... (more)

May 31st: Departure Day

So. Today's the big day. Departure Day. The day I thought of every day the last weeks. It's departure day. At three o'clock in the afternoon, a bus will take me to Gothenburg City Airport. Thereafter, Ryanair flies me all the way to Belgium, where my parents and girlfriend are waiting for me. From then, it'll only take an hour or three to get back home.

But! That's not exactly everything I'm doing on my last day. At twelve o'clock - so in one and a half hour - I'm having lunch at one of our f... (more)

The rituals, for the last time

Tomorrow is the day. The last full day. Tomorrow, I'm one night away from departure, so it's going to be the day that I'm doing the Swedish rituals me and my friends practically do everyday since the last weeks.

12:00 - Coffee with something to eat at Da Matteo, our favorite place to drink the best coffees in Gothenburg. Whenever you're in Gothenburg, please go to one of their establishments!

13:00 - Time to go to Saluhallen, the place where we get almost all the food we need for preparing... (more)
